In the same year of the separation of Smokie (1982) Chris released his first solo album "Rock away your teardrops" and his first solo single "Hey Baby" on the German market.
He also wrote and produced for other artists or projects, including the single "This time“for the English National football team.
1984 two more solo singles were published "My girl and me" (only for the English market) and "Love is a battlefield." which was also simultaneously done by Pat Benatar.
1985 a charity performance for the victims of the fire disaster at the Bradford football stadium (in the home town of Smokie) got the original band together again and they decided at that point to tour again.
In 1986 Chris finally left the band. It was the year in which his major breakthrough as a solo artist happened.
With "Midnight Lady", written by Dieter Bohlen, the title song from the crime thriller "der Tausch", he celebrated a fantastic comeback all over Europe and led the German sales charts for many weeks. In the same year his second solo album "Some hearts are diamonds and the same called single came out.
1988 Chris did another duet, this time with Harry Belafonte’s daughter Shari Belafonte he sang "I want to be needed".
1992 he repeated his cooperation with Suzi Quatro, for the single "I need your love", written by Chris himself.
In 1995, Chris was voted for "Video Artist of the Year „by the American music channel CMT for his videos
"Jealous heart" and "The growing years" (published only in the UK)
Also in 1995 he produced the song "Those were the days" for Cynthia Lennon (the first wife of his great idol John Lennon) and its own title "Walking in the rain". The single was released under his own label "Dice Music LTD" in the UK.
1996 Chris sang the title song "Fearless hearts" for the German TV series "Alarm code 112".
With the album "Christmas together", which Chris did together with the Riga Dome boys choir, he has demonstrated that he`s not only great in rock and pop music, but also can sing classic songs. Absolutely remarkable is also his interpretation of the Latin hymn "Panis Angelicus." No wonder that this album became the "Album of the Year" in Latvia.

Since his huge success with "Midnight Lady" Chris played many gigs on tours and festivals throughout Europe, Russia, even in Mongolia, he thrilled thousands of spectators. Everybody who’s ever experienced Chris Norman performing live will go and see him again, undoubtedly!
Chris and his band play - apart from all well known Smokie hits - also many of his solo titles live on stage.
2004 was a very successful year for Chris: Right at the beginning of the year he took part in the German "Comeback Show", which was broadcasted on the German TV Channel Pro 7.
There he competed with 9 other Stars (e.g. Limahl, Coolio, Haddaway and the subsequent finals opponent Benjamin Boys) and enthused not only the studio audience with many different musical styles (rock, ballads, disco ect.), but also the spectators in front of the televisions, who definitely right chose Chris as the winner of this Competition and his winning song "Amazing," his subsequent single entered the German charts immediately! Also in 2004, Chris got his own star on the Walk of Fame in Vienna (Austria), and also won the prize for the best male voice awarded by the German Radio Station “Radio Rainbow”
In the following years countless live performances all over the world followed. Chris was guest on many TV and radio shows and toured in April 2007 as special guest on the Dr. Hook "History Tour" through his native country where he played songs “unplugged" to promote his album "Coming Home”. In November 2007 he toured extremely successful with a full acoustic program in Germany and brought lots of the beautiful songs of his album "Close up” on stage.
On February 13th 2009 Chris “The Hits” Album came out in Germany and went straight into the charts, a few month later it was also released in Denmark where the Album went to No 2 in the Charts.
“The Hits”contents all his new recorded greatest hits of 30 years of music history and also a free of charge DVD taken on the Close up Tour 2007
In April 2009 another big and succesfull tour through Germany started and was followed by several gigs all over Europe and finally Chris went to Australia for 13 shows in October. Shortly before Christmas Chris and his great band also performed in Denmark, so 2009 was a year of live shows all over the world with thousends of fans waiting for him to come back soon again.. A perfekt end of the year was the VERLEIHUNG of a golden Record for his great “The Hits” Album
2010 started with 2 live shows in Isreal followed by numerous shows in Germany during summer
